The sponsor for the future USS Pierre (LCS 38) is Larissa Thune Hargens, a South Dakota native and the daughter of U.S. Senator John R. Thune. She has participated in the ship’s christening ceremony, where she broke a bottle of wine over the ship’s bow, and the keel-laying ceremony, where she authenticated the keel.
