Larissa Thune Hargens
The sponsor for the future USS Pierre (LCS 38) is Larissa Thune Hargens, a South Dakota native and the daughter of U.S. Senator John R. Thune. She has participated in the ship’s christening ceremony, where she broke a bottle of wine over the ship’s bow, and the keel-laying ceremony, where she authenticated the keel.

The USS PIERRE (LCS 38) Commissioning Committee is a non-profit public charity organized under 26 U.S.C. § 501(c)(3) in partnership with the Panama City/Bay County Council of the Navy League. While the U.S. Navy funds the formal ceremony, all other commissioning events are organized and supported by the Commissioning Committee through charitable donations from corporations, civic organizations, and individuals honoring the ship’s namesake, Pierre, South Dakota, and her crew.
